An important center of the Don region. At the end of the 17th century, the attention of Peter the Great czar was attracted by the advantageous location of the late city area: on the banks of the river Don, about twenty kilometers from the rivers estuary, the proximity of the Azov Sea and the Black Sea as well the proximity of the Caspian Sea due to the important river ports on Don and Volga.
The city is inhabited by more than one million people. One part of the city is in Asia, and the other lies on the European side. Most of the inhabitants live in European side.
The descendants of the Cossacks are direct, kind people and are happy to give you directions regards the parks of the city, zoos or museums if you speak Russian. If not … then use your hands and your feet. Try to communicate in signs because except the young generations not many people speak a foreign language.
And if had the chance to taste the Cossack culture, you have to try the fish soup prepared based on famous Cossack recipes.
The city can be approached by boat, train or plane. I wish you to enjoy sightseeing and have a good support!
